There were and still are days, i walk around crowded streets, gazing at the confusion of colors hung out on the shopping windows... well thats what you thought, but i hate crowded streets. I prefer shopping on a weekday, then be part of the rude melee.
The Thumb rule for shopping in Bangalore is,
1. Pick a weekday to go shopping.
2. No sale, no gain.
3. When you really want something, dont wait for the sale, you will never find it.
4. Branded merchandise is a better deal! because of the durability factor.
The first time i went to the "Central Happiness sale", i felt like the little princess let loose in a candy store. Close on its heel followed the Shoppers Stop sale, then the Lifestyle sale, i had shopped enough to last me a year. All the party dresses i would need, all the jeans and tshirts! little did i realise, 6months down the lane, i will be bombarded with the same offers, and it will continue for the rest of my freaking life!
When you buy party clothes, you are expected to hit the road! all i was hit by was a stable relationship plus a geek minus the party. Life ended up being a casual affair in mcdie and dominoes.
The Second time around the sale circuit, i decided to be smarter and ended up wid a stack of kurtas, you know wat they say about kurtas, it doesnt end with the 600tag, there is the mix-n-match vicious circle, that can render them completely useless.
The clothes were stacking up in my closet, while i was living in jeans and tshirt, spending hours in the weekend putting the "unusables" in order. So eventually, i dumped most of the "unusables" on my sister, who was initially flabbergasted by the sisterly love, then caught up with the game ,those clothes were never meant to be for her. So my closet was empty, while my sister's closet at home was overflowing with should-be-useful-in-college-clothes!
Over the past 3-years, going thru the Central-LifeStyle-ShoppersStop sale, can slacken the weirdest of the shoppies. For instance i saw a tshirt similar to the one i bought 2years back, on sale in ShopperStop, its the same sale-stock repeated over and over and over again! And after a while sale turns out to a dour-gimmick, the off-sale gems look like a blessing, and do grab them before they vanish. Its better to own one of those gems rather then a whole closet full of sale junk!
Well, the amount of shopping and shipping to sister has hit quite a low ebb following the recession. I do spend 2seconds thinking before i make the plunge. And I definitely think thrice before going on my shopping breaks during office hours. Those are the real culprits, bored out of your freaking mind in office, the moment you enter the shop, you get your ticket to make life interesting!
In conclusion, the only rule of thumb for shopping is the wallet! iam not overdue on any of my credit card, but neither do i have any saving, living for the moment, till it would last!
